Asset Select+ for AVEVA PI Vision

PI Vision asset selector that switches the whole display

Build one display and let operators choose the pump, line or unit it shows. Asset Select+ lists your AF assets as a tree or a list, with search, attribute values and status colours, and sets the PI Vision asset context with one click.

PI Vision asset selector for the display context

Put the asset choice on the display itself. One click changes the asset that the whole display shows.

Select an asset and the display follows

Build a display once for a pump, line or unit, and let operators switch it to any other asset of the same kind.

  • One click sets the PI Vision asset context for the display.
  • Trends, values and other symbols with asset-relative data sources refresh for the selected asset.
  • The header can show a fixed title or the name of the selected asset.
  • The selected asset stays highlighted, also when the context changes elsewhere.
Two states of the same PI Vision display: Asset Select+ with Line 1.1.1 selected and named in the header next to a trend of its speed, then Line 1.1.4 selected and named in the header with the same trend now showing Line 1.1.4
Selecting another line switches the asset-relative trend on the display to that line. Demo data. Select the image to enlarge.

A fixed asset list or an AF search

Pick the assets by hand, or let an AF search fill the list so new assets of the same type appear without editing the display.

  • Drag assets onto the symbol for a fixed list.
  • Search criteria: database, search root with all descendants, asset name, asset type and category.
  • Number of results and asset order.
  • Asset Filter+ and linked filters can narrow the list, with an "x of y assets" indicator.

Asset tree, list view and search in PI Vision

Show large AF hierarchies in a form operators can find their way around, and keep the selector as small as the display needs.

Browse the AF hierarchy as a tree or a flat list

Follow the AF structure operators already know, or flatten it into one list.

  • Tree view built from the AF paths, with expandable nodes and optional auto expand.
  • Parent nodes as selectable assets or only as folders.
  • List view with every asset in one flat list.
  • Asset icon, description and column headers on or off.

Search, sort and a collapsible picker

Find the right asset in a long list, and fold the selector away when the display needs the space.

  • Search as you type, with wildcards such as Line 1.1*; branches with matches open in the tree.
  • Sort by name or by any added attribute, ascending or descending.
  • Collapsible layout: a header that opens the list over the display, closes on select and can start expanded.
  • Or a static, always visible list, with theme presets, font, font size and padding to match the display.
Asset Select+ in the collapsible layout, opened over a PI Vision trend, with the wildcard search Line 1.1* showing only Line 1, Line 1.1 and its four sub-lines, next to the Layout settings with Type Collapsible, Collapse on Select and Start Expanded

Attribute values and status colours in the asset list

See the key value of every asset before you select it, and let colours show which asset needs attention.

Attribute values beside each asset

Show one or more attributes next to every asset, so the list already answers the first question.

  • Attribute values with units to the right of each asset name.
  • Current value, or total, average, minimum, maximum or range over the display time range.
  • Also standard deviation, count and per cent good, time or event weighted.
  • Column headers and the PI Vision number format.

Multi-state colours on values or whole rows

Turn the selector into a status list: operators see which asset is out of range and open it with one click.

  • Multi-state limits colour an attribute value as text or as a fill.
  • Apply to Asset colours the whole asset row.
  • Hide the value for a purely colour-coded asset list.
  • Multi-state per attribute, configured from the right-click menu.

Asset Select+ FAQ

Questions we are asked most often. Read the Asset Select+ documentation or ask a technical question.

How is Asset Select+ different from PI Vision asset switching and from Asset Filter+?

Asset Select+ sets the same PI Vision asset context that the display uses for asset-relative data, so the whole display switches to the selected asset. It puts that choice on the display as a tree or list with search, attribute values and status colours. Asset Filter+ works differently: it narrows the assets shown inside compatible Vision Library+ symbols, such as Asset Comparison Table+, and leaves the display context unchanged. Asset Filter+ can also narrow the Asset Select+ list.

Which symbols follow the selected asset?

Every symbol whose data sources are relative to the asset, for example trends, values and tables built from an asset of the same AF template. If the display does not switch, check that its symbols use asset-relative data sources rather than fixed PI Points, and that the selected asset is based on the same AF template; assets of another template, including a derived one, may not switch.

Can new assets appear in the list automatically?

Yes. Add search criteria and the list is filled from an AF search by search root, asset name, asset type and category. If assets are missing, check Return All Descendants and the number of results.

Can the list show which assets need attention?

Yes. Show an attribute beside each asset and add multi-state limits to it. The colour goes on the value, or with Apply to Asset on the whole row; hide the value for a purely colour-coded list.

What do we need to run it?

PI Vision 2021 or later with PI Web API, and PI AF Server 2018 SP2 or later. Asset Select+ runs in PI Vision and uses each user’s existing PI permissions.
