Vision Report+ v2.1: PDF signature fields and tighter service security

Vision Report+ v2.1:
PDF signature fields and tighter service security

Vision Report+ 2.1 adds digital signature fields to PDF reports, so signers no longer have to add them by hand in Adobe Acrobat. It also tightens what the report service opens and where it sends output: only hosts you allow, only printers you select and, if you choose, only the mail domains you list for prints.

Product: Vision Report+ for AVEVA PI Vision Release: 2.1.0 Date: November 4, 2026

Some of the security changes can stop an existing report until an administrator allows its host or printer, so check them before you install. If you are upgrading, read What changes when you upgrade first.

New symbol

Signature Field

The configuration pane of the Vision Report Signature Field symbol, with the label set to Operator and settings for text, background and border.

The Vision Report Signature Field symbol marks where a PDF should be signed, directly on the display. It adds an empty digital signature field to the PDF, over a box that also prints on paper.

  • One field per signer, placed and resized on the display, with a label such as the signer's role.
  • Add signature field is available in the report page editor, the Print pane and the page frame settings.
  • Works with report pages, Collection pages, the Print pane and the print button, with or without page frames. A Collection page with rows and columns needs frames, and on a display with frames each field must sit inside one.
  • Approval drafts have locked fields, and the approved PDF can be signed.
  • Signing happens in your PDF application with the signer's own digital ID. Vision Report+ does not sign PDFs, check signatures or receive the signed copy.

New features

Service security

  • Allowed hosts only: reports render only from the PI Vision host and the hosts an administrator lists. A report page or redirect to any other host fails with an error that names the host.
  • Stricter rendering: web security is on in the rendering browser, and integrated sign-in is limited to the allowed hosts.
  • PI Vision certificate checks are on for new installations, with an error that says what to fix.
  • The Vision Report+ toolbar no longer loads stored credentials or holds the encryption key.

Printing and print mail

  • Selected printers only: reports and prints use only the printers an administrator selected.
  • Optional mail domain list limits who prints may be sent to. By default every recipient is allowed.

Administration and toolbar

  • Choose which symbols authors can add: you can stop authors adding the print button, page frame or signature field symbol. Displays that already use them keep working.
  • Clearer startup errors when the Reports pane, the Print pane or the print button cannot load, including CORS and mixed-content problems.

Fixes

  • A backfill without delivery of a report that needs approval stays a watermarked draft and is no longer copied to the local folder.
  • A PI connection password that cannot be decrypted now gives an error that names the setting.
  • On PI Vision 3.9, the report page editor now shows the page frames of a display that is not open.
  • PI Vision time zone overrides with the Windows names British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba Standard Time are now recognized.
  • Alerts for reports that need approval no longer report has not run while a scheduled run waits for approval (fixed in 2.0.1).
  • Alerts after several service outages name the outage instead of reporting has not run, also after service restarts (fixed in 2.0.1).
  • A pending execution without output files no longer makes the service retry it again and again (fixed in 2.0.1).

What changes when you upgrade

Coming from 2.0, the AF database schema is unchanged, so there is no migration. These points change for existing reports and their authors:

  • Allow other display hosts before upgrading: a report page or redirect that leads to a host other than the PI Vision host now fails. Add legitimate hosts, such as another server name or a federated sign-in page, to Service:AllowedDisplayHosts on every service node.
  • Check the Printers list: a report or print that names a printer outside the list completes with errors and prints nothing. An empty list allows no printer.
  • Backfills without delivery of reports that need approval now give a draft and no local copy.
  • Add page frames with the button: the page frame symbol is no longer in the symbol palette. Use Add page frame instead. Existing frames keep working.

For administrators

  • Update the PI Vision toolbar with the Configuration Utility after installing, on every PI Vision server. Mail passwords and client secrets are now set only in the Configuration Utility.
  • Certificates: upgraded installations keep accepting a PI Vision certificate the node does not trust until you turn certificate checks on.
  • Stored credentials: anyone with read access to the Vision Report+ AF database can still read them, and the encryption does not protect them from someone who has the key, so keep the accounts they belong to to the rights they need.
