PI Vision Custom Symbol
Proactive Transformer Health Diagnostics
Transform raw Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) data into visual, actionable insights. The Duval Triangle symbol empowers reliability engineers to instantly detect early-stage transformer faults, track degradation history, and prevent catastrophic failures natively within AVEVA PI Vision.
Advanced DGA Analysis & Visualization
Comprehensive Diagnostics
- Multiple Triangle Types: Fully supports Duval Triangles 1, 2, 4, and 5 for accurate diagnosis across different transformer types and fault temperatures.
- Automatic Classification: Instantly plots data into standard fault zones (PD, T1-T3, D1-D2, DT) using precise IEC/IEEE coordinate boundaries.
- Bad Data Handling: Automatically filters out invalid or missing PI data, ensuring your diagnostic charts remain accurate and crash-free.
Historical Trajectory Tracking
- Visual History Trail: Automatically plot past readings based on your display's time range to see exactly how a fault is evolving over time.
- Intelligent Fading: Older data points smoothly decrease in size and opacity, creating a highly intuitive visual timeline of transformer degradation.
- Interactive Tooltips: Hover over any point—current or historical—to view the exact timestamps and gas percentages.
Total Visual Customization
- Corporate Branding: Customize the fill colors, borders, and labels of every individual fault zone to match your operational dashboards.
- Attention Mechanics: Enable the "Pulse" animation to make the current transformer state actively ripple, ensuring it stands out on crowded screens.
- Grid & Axis Control: Toggle tick marks (inside or outside), major axes, inner grid lines, and override chemical labels to suit your exact needs.
Solve Complex Reliability Workflows
Standard Transformer Fleets
Monitor your primary mineral oil transformers. Distinguish between low-energy sparking, high-energy arcing, and severe thermal faults to prioritize maintenance.
Load Tap Changers (LTCs)
LTCs naturally generate gas during normal switching. Use specialized boundaries to filter out normal operational arcing from severe abnormal faults.
Stray Gassing Detection
Identify low-temperature degradation and "stray gassing" in aging transformers before they evolve into critical thermal or electrical issues.
Fault Trajectory Tracking
Watch a fault evolve in real-time. See if a transformer is moving from a low-energy T1 fault directly into a critical T3 fault over the last 30 days.
Supported Duval Triangle Types
Seamlessly switch between diagnostic models directly from the PI Vision formatting pane.
Triangle 1: Standard Mineral Oil
The industry standard for general fault classification. Maps Methane (CH₄), Ethylene (C₂H₄), and Acetylene (C₂H₂) to diagnose PD, Thermal, and Arcing faults.
Triangle 2: Load Tap Changers
Specifically designed for oil-filled LTCs. Shifts the fault boundaries to account for expected switching arcs, accurately isolating true abnormal faults.
Triangle 4: Low-Temperature Faults
Utilizes Hydrogen (H₂), Methane (CH₄), and Ethane (C₂H₆) to diagnose low-energy faults, paper carbonization, and stray gassing.
Triangle 5: High-Temp & Non-Mineral Oils
Combines Methane, Ethylene, and Ethane to analyze high-temperature thermal degradation. Excellent for complementing Triangle 1 findings.
