Asset Comparison Table+ for AVEVA PI Vision

PI Vision asset comparison table with grouping, totals and editing

See the same AF attributes for many assets side by side, with the exact values. Asset Comparison Table+ groups, totals, sorts and colours the table in your PI Vision display, and can let users edit the values.

PI Vision asset comparison table for AF assets

Choose the assets and attributes once, then decide whether the assets run down the rows or across the columns.

Assets as rows or as columns

Use the familiar layout with one row per asset, or turn the table round when you compare a few assets across many attributes.

  • Vertical: assets as rows and attributes as columns; horizontal swaps them.
  • Column widths that fit the data, fit the table width or are set by hand.
  • A custom label per attribute and for the asset column, with units and alignment.
  • Right-to-left reading order for right-to-left languages.

From an AF search, as current values or summaries

Let PI Vision search criteria fill the table, so new assets of the same type appear without editing the display.

  • Search by database, search root with all descendants, asset name, type and category.
  • Attributes picked from one list of the attributes the assets share.
  • Current value, or total, average, minimum, maximum, range, standard deviation, count or per cent good, time or event weighted.
  • PI Vision number formats with a fixed number of decimal places.

Group, total and sort asset data

Structure a long asset list so readers find the assets that matter and see the overall figures.

Grouping and totals

Group the assets by an attribute value and add totals for every attribute or every asset.

  • Group by an attribute, sorted ascending or descending, expanded or collapsed, with an asset count.
  • Total rows per attribute and total columns per asset: sum, average, minimum, maximum and count.
  • A grand total where the two meet.

Asset hierarchy as a tree

Show parent and child assets as collapsible tree nodes, so readers move from a line to its sub-lines in one table.

  • Child assets nested under their parent assets.
  • Auto expand on load, down to a chosen level.
  • Expand all and collapse all from the toolbar.
  • Works with an AF search that returns all descendants.

Sorting, multi-state colours, themes and download

Sort with a click on a column header, let colours show which assets need attention, and give readers the data in the format they need.

  • Sort by any column; a row click or the column menu can open a quick trend.
  • Multi-state colours per attribute as text, border, soft fill, accent and tint, status dot, value badge, solid fill or progress bar, optionally on the asset name too.
  • Built-in themes such as PI Vision, Light and Software Athlete, container styles and a comfortable row spacing.
  • A download button for CSV, JSON, Excel (XLSX) or PDF.

Edit AF attribute values in PI Vision

Switch the table to Edit mode and use it as an input form for many assets at once.

Edit values in the table and save them

Let users correct or update values for many assets in one place; Save writes the new values to their data sources.

  • Edit mode with Allow Edit per attribute, so only the intended columns can be changed.
  • Save at the current time or a custom time, with an optional timestamp box in the toolbar.
  • Undo and redo before saving, reload, and import values from a CSV file.
  • Optionally delete existing values, and ask users to confirm before saving.

Validation limits for entered values

Catch typing errors before they reach the PI System with limits per attribute.

  • Limits from the database or a custom minimum and maximum.
  • Hard limits block the value; soft limits warn first.
  • A custom message for out-of-range values.
  • Edits use each user’s existing PI write permissions.

Asset Comparison Table+ FAQ

Questions we are asked most often. Read the Asset Comparison Table+ documentation or ask a technical question.

How is it different from the PI Vision asset comparison table?

Asset Comparison Table+ keeps the familiar layout of assets and attributes and adds a horizontal orientation, grouping, a tree view of child assets, totals, multi-state cell styles, editing with limits, downloads, themes and click actions. You can use it next to the native table on the same display.

When should I use the table instead of a bar chart?

Use Asset Comparison Table+ when readers need the exact values side by side, totals or editing. Use Asset Comparison Bar Chart+ to rank many assets by one or a few attributes at a glance.

Can users edit values in the table?

Yes. Switch the table to Edit mode and turn on Allow Edit for the attributes users may change. Save writes the values at the current time or a custom time, optionally after a confirmation, and limits can block or warn about out-of-range entries. Writes use each user’s existing PI permissions.

Can new assets appear in the table automatically?

Yes. Add search criteria and the table is filled from an AF search by search root, asset name, asset type and category. If assets are missing, check Return All Descendants and the number of results.

What do we need to run it?

PI Vision 2021 or later with PI Web API, and PI AF Server 2018 SP2 or later. Asset Comparison Table+ runs in PI Vision and uses each user’s existing PI permissions.
