PI Nexus+ v1.3: compression tuning, external systems, and deeper dependency analysis

PI Nexus+ v1.3 adds guided PI Point compression analysis, external-system data-flow mapping, expandable dependency graphs, broader PI Vision reference scanning, scan performance improvements, and updated dashboard triage views.

Analyze compression before applying changes

Compression Tuning observes selected PI Points, compares higher-detail reference data with events retained in the archive, and recommends exception and compression settings. The workflow is designed to preserve useful process movement while avoiding archive events that do not add meaningful information.

Define the tuning scope

Create a run for selected PI Points or an eligible PI Point Rule, then choose the observation settings for the tuning review.

Compare reference and archive data

Review data fidelity, event counts, trend comparisons, and the recommendation classification for each point.

Review and apply deliberately

Apply a recommendation, customize the values, skip the result, or exclude the point. Recommendations are not applied automatically.

Storage impact stays evidence-based

Dashboard archive-impact values estimate future event and storage change when applied recommendations have measurable evidence. They are not measurements of disk space already reclaimed.

Document data flow beyond PI

External Systems lets administrators define upstream and downstream systems such as AVEVA Connect, ERP systems, interfaces, and other integration endpoints. PI Point Rules can assign an external system as a Source, a Target, or both, with an optional connection label for the protocol or integration path.

Named external systems

Record a stable system name, type, owner, runbook URL, and visual identity without storing credentials.

Directional relationships

Show data flowing from an external system into PI Points or from PI Points to an external system.

Rule-based assignment

Use PI Point Rules to connect matching groups of points instead of maintaining integrations one point at a time.

Derived data health

Review health impact from connected PI Points with independent source and target policies.

Support context

Open an external-system detail to find the responsible contact, runbook, connected points, and bounded graph.

Connectivity boundary

External-system mapping documents topology and derived health; it does not test whether the external system is online.

Follow dependencies through the chain

The dependency graph now supports expanding upstream and downstream nodes so an investigation can follow more of the relationship chain from the current object. Expandable stacks keep large fan-outs manageable, while graph filters and direct object details remain available for focused review.

Start with the earliest unhealthy object

Use the graph to move from a visible downstream symptom toward the likely source object, then inspect usage and change history before making a correction in the source PI System component.

Scan more of the PI Vision reference model

PI Vision scans now support collections and asset-context references. Display usage and detail views can distinguish authored references from effective references where an asset-context projection is present, improving the evidence available when reviewing display dependencies.

Faster scans and clearer daily triage

Scan processing has been improved so large environments can refresh current inventory, health, issues, dependencies, and changes more efficiently. Actual scan duration still depends on environment size, enabled targets, network conditions, and source-system response times.

The Dashboard has also been updated with separate Overview and Action View workflows. Overview presents broad KPI and change information. Action View prioritizes the next work items through issue severity, issue age, problem templates, top errors and warnings, recent active issues, compression recommendation counts, and change activity.

Operational notes

  1. Review compression recommendations. PI Nexus+ does not apply them automatically; confirm the trend and intended storage/fidelity trade-off first.
  2. Configure external-system ownership and direction. Source and Target assignments describe topology and derived health, not connectivity status.
  3. Use Action View as a queue. Continue to the full Issues, Change History, inventory, or Compression Tuning pages when the complete result set is required.
