Vision Library+ v2.0:

Vision Library+ v2.0 adds KPI Card+, Asset Filter+, Asset Analytics KPI+, Asset Time Series Chart+ and Event Frame Form+, the Quick Trend tool, one shared styling system with themes and corporate palettes, a consistent configuration pane across every symbol, a chart toolbar with a six-format download menu, synchronized cursors and rulers, a shared Time Bar, filtering between symbols, and well over a hundred fixes.

New symbols

KPI Card+

One PI Point or AF attribute as a compact dashboard card. Show the current value or a calculated summary over a period (total, average, minimum, maximum, count, percent good and more), compare it with a target such as a fixed value, the AF Target trait or a historical average, and add a sparkline of recent history behind or below the number. Conditional colors apply to the whole card, with treatments such as progress bar, fill level and radial progress.

Asset Filter+

One control that narrows every asset symbol on the display. Build the choices from any asset attribute, such as operating status, health state or production area, show a path such as Site, Area and Unit as a tree, or group a numeric attribute like load or run hours into ranges. Operators pick one item or several, search long equipment lists, and see only the running pumps or only the motors in alarm without a separate display for each. A selected asset can also be linked to the event symbols to show exactly that equipment's events.

Asset Analytics KPI+

KPI cards across a fleet of assets. Count the assets, or sum, average or otherwise summarize one of their attributes, grouped by template, description or any attribute so that each group gets its own card. A card can carry a target with a difference badge, and clicking a card can drill down or filter the rest of the display. The symbol narrows automatically when an Asset Filter+ or another asset symbol makes a selection.

Asset Time Series Chart+

Compare the same measurements across many assets. Configure an attribute once and every matching asset inherits its appearance, analysis and multi-state definition: twenty pumps with three measurements are three configuration items instead of sixty traces. The asset set can be a fixed selection, a dynamic search or the display's own asset context. Digital states can be drawn as stepped lines or shaded bands, and the chart shares the Time Bar, summary table, toolbar and rulers with Combo Chart+.

Event Frame Form+

Event frames as editable cards, one card per event, for operators who work through events one at a time: classify downtime, write a comment, acknowledge. Each field gets the editor that matches its AF data type, edits are highlighted until saved, and the symbol warns before you navigate away with unsaved changes. Optional quick actions add Acknowledge, Copy Event, Split Event and Event Details.

New tool: Quick Trend

Quick Trend creates floating charts from the symbols on a display and keeps them on screen while you move between displays. Select a symbol and press Quick Trend to open a populated chart; select another symbol to replace the traces, or Ctrl-select to add them. Each chart has a summary table, rulers, range selection, synchronized cursors and its own Time Bar, and can be dragged, maximized or minimized into a small taskbar. Several symbols offer “Open Quick Trend” and “Add to active Quick Trend” actions for a selected value, row or item.

Themes and styling

Around 41 symbols now share one Style section with three settings:

• Theme picks a whole color scheme from a grid of preview tiles: PI Vision, Steel Blue, Graphite, Midnight, Light, High Contrast, Print, Transparent, or your own Custom colors. Picking a named theme never overwrites the colors saved under Custom.
• Surface is Flat or Gradient; the gradient is derived from the theme.
• Container Style frames the symbol as None, Flat, Card, Framed or Glass.

Apply to all symbols copies the current symbol's Theme, Surface and Container Style to every other Vision Library+ symbol on the display in one click, and sets the display background to match. PI Vision's Undo reverts the whole batch.

Corporate themes. Administrators can define company themes with their own name and palette in the Vision Library+ configuration file. They appear first in every Theme grid, and the built-in themes can be hidden to keep users on the company palette.

A theme sets presentation colors only. Multi-state colors, chart series colors, thresholds, event severities and gauge ranges keep their meaning and stay under your control.

All tables now share one style editor, and a custom table style can be copied from one table symbol and pasted into another. Value+ takes the Theme only; use KPI Card+ when you want a value in a styled tile.

A consistent configuration pane

Every configuration pane was reworked so the same setting looks and behaves the same everywhere:

• One row layout that adapts to the width of the tool pane, with no horizontal scrolling and no clipped fields.
• One look for every control, with a clear focus ring, redrawn sliders and toggle buttons, and one family of error, warning and information messages.
• Collapsible groups with one header style; the group you had open stays open when you select another symbol of the same kind.
• Shared editors for data source lists, attribute transfer, Point Attributes, font, font size and date format, so a list or a picker behaves the same in every symbol.
• Shared Data Retrieval and Time Range sections where a symbol has them.
• Opening a pane no longer changes the display. A setting is written only when you change it.

Charts

Toolbar, fullscreen and download

Fifteen charts gained a toolbar at the top right of the plot that appears when the pointer enters the chart (or always, if you prefer). Depending on the chart it offers pan, box zoom, zoom in and out, reset, summary table, Create Event Frame, clear rulers, fullscreen and download. Fullscreen is now a toolbar button; double-clicking a chart opens PI Vision's own ad hoc trend again.

Download is a menu with PNG, SVG, PDF, CSV, JSON and XLSX. Data exports carry clear columns such as Label, Timestamp, Value, Units and Status, with real date and number cells in Excel.

Synchronized cursors and rulers

Compatible charts on a display can share the hover position and the A and B ruler positions, so reading one chart reads them all. Administrators can switch this off site-wide.

One vocabulary for headers, legends, axes, labels, tooltips and grids

Charts now share the same sections and the same names for the same things: title and subtitle with one alignment; a legend with position, placement, alignment and text options; scale arrangements of Single, Multiple, Separate or Custom named scales; linear or logarithmic transforms; data labels; tooltip and pointer; and a four-row Grid section that replaces the old icon picker. Several charts gained settings they never had, such as a subtitle, axis titles, tick settings and a proper legend section.

Combo Chart+ and Asset Time Series Chart+ share one engine

Both charts offer the same trace types (line, area, bar, scatter, range area), per-trace regression and moving average, stacking of any trace type, a bar width slider, and digital states drawn as trends or bands. Multi-state can color the series, color the data labels and draw historical limits as lines, bands and targets.

• Statistics between cursors. Place rulers A and B on the chart and the summary table below it calculates its statistics for exactly that interval, with the values at A and B and their difference in their own columns. Without rulers, drag a Select interval or use the whole range. Statistics come from the server, so they match what PI reports rather than what is drawn.
• Fixed and automatic scale limits can be combined. A value scale can now have a fixed minimum with an automatic maximum, or the other way round, so a chart can sit on a fixed zero while its top follows the data. Previously a custom range needed both limits.

Sharper and faster

Charts render as vector graphics, so they stay crisp at any display zoom and in print. On long live ranges a chart refreshes its recent tail instead of redrawing everything on every tick.

The Time Bar

Ten symbols and Quick Trend can carry a Time Bar that gives the chart or table its own time range without changing the PI Vision display time. It has lock and unlock, editable start and end, Previous and Next, a duration menu and Reset. PI time expressions such as *-3h and t are accepted and re-evaluated on every refresh. The bar takes the owning symbol's font and colors, so there is nothing extra to style.

Filtering between symbols

Symbols can now filter each other across the display.

• Master filtering broadcasts a symbol's whole filter to every compatible symbol in the same family.
• Linked filtering publishes a selected value on a named channel that other symbols map to one of their own properties. A channel can join an asset symbol to an event symbol: pick an asset to see its events, or pick an event to see its asset.

Publishers include Asset Filter+, Event Filter+, Asset Comparison Table+, Asset Comparison Bar Chart+, Asset Treemap+, Map+, Events Table+ and the Event Analytics symbols. A filtered symbol shows a compact count such as “4 of 31 events”, and the configuration pane checks the wiring and warns about mismatches. Filtering settings live under Interactivity > Filtering on every symbol that supports them.

Data quality

• Hide No Data hides the PI “No Data” state on Value+ and Combo Chart+ while other bad states stay visible, because they carry information.
• Stale warning. Value+, Linear Gauge+, Radial Gauge+ and Alarm Sound+ can now check how old a live value is. Set Stale after to a threshold longer than the expected update interval, and the symbol shows an amber clock as soon as the last event is older than that. Hovering over the clock shows the last event time, the current age of the data and the threshold. On the gauges the warning names the pointers affected, and Alarm Sound+ switches to a stale state and plays no alarm audio, so a silent sensor is not mistaken for a healthy one.
• Administrators can enforce data-quality settings site-wide.

Symbol highlights

Beyond the shared improvements above, these symbols changed the most:

• Web View+ gained per-page options for embedded PI Vision pages (toolbar, sidebar, context menu, auto reload), new placeholders for the selected asset and the assets on the display, a slideshow pause button, and a repaired Seeq integration with a workbook filter.
• DateTime Picker+ was rebuilt with quick-start presets (Last 7 days, shift days, months, weeks), a Compact / Normal / Large size, and simpler, clearer settings. A new Follow Latest Time Range setting keeps a display on the newest period: when a rolling period such as the current shift or day rolls over, the picker re-selects its default item and moves the display onto the new period by itself. Leave it off when operators should stay on the period they are looking at.
• Navigation Menu+ no longer saves a shared menu automatically. A menu stored on an AF attribute is now edited as a draft and written only when you select Save; Reload discards the draft, the pane shows who last saved the shared menu and when, and a save is refused if another display changed the attribute in the meantime. See What changes for existing displays below. The pane was also restructured into Menu items, Layout, Style, Items, Title, Logo and Toolbar.
• Linear Gauge+ and Radial Gauge+ gained layout presets (Thermometer, Needle dial, Value arc) and the stale warning.
• AF Table+ gained a reload interval and query parameters that filter a linked table on the server.
• Events Table+ can open Quick Trend from an event, publish selected rows to other symbols, and carry a Time Bar.
• Time Series Table+ uses the shared threshold editor for column colors, and its PDF and Excel exports now match the screen.
• Asset Treemap+, Asset Comparison Bar Chart+, Event Analytics Chart+ and Pie+, FFT+, Gantt Chart+, Heatmap+, Sankey+ gained the chart toolbar with fullscreen and download.

Fixes

Well over a hundred defects were fixed. The ones customers were most likely to have met:

• Chart image exports produced broken PNG and SVG files, and PDF and XLSX downloads silently produced CSV.
• Charts with multi-state color lines were sluggish; a repaint that took almost three seconds now takes a fraction of a second.
• Bar charts drew far outside their time window.
• Charts were blurry under PI Vision display zoom.
• Dropdowns rebuilt from live data could silently erase a saved setting, and the loss was saved with the display.
• Reordering or deleting a data source pointed settings at the wrong source in more than a dozen symbols.
• DateTime Picker+ showed the day after the selected one, and an inverted range broke every data request on the display.
• Gauge tooltips named the wrong data source when two pointers showed the same number.
• Navigation Menu+ showed a warning on every refresh after a data error.
• Data-entry symbols ignored a time-zone override when writing values.

What changes for existing displays

Saved displays are not rewritten and keep rendering. These are the changes you will notice:

• Everyone must hard-refresh PI Vision once after the upgrade (Ctrl+Shift+R, then a normal reload), otherwise the browser may keep old panes and scripts.
• Navigation Menu+ shared menus must be saved by hand. Until now, a menu stored on an AF attribute was written back to the attribute automatically whenever it was edited. From 2.0, edits to a shared menu stay a local draft until you select Save in the configuration pane. Closing the pane without saving discards the draft and restores the shared menu. The pane reports unsaved changes, shows who last saved the menu and when, and refuses to overwrite a newer version saved from another display; select Reload to pick up that version and reapply your edits. Anyone who maintains a shared menu should be told about this before the upgrade, because an edit that used to be live for every display immediately is now visible nowhere until it is saved. A new attribute is written for the first time with Initialize Shared Configuration.
• Themes. Symbols saved before this release open as Custom and keep their appearance. Separate colors for title, axis, data labels and time bar are no longer read; the theme's text color applies throughout. Tables saved as “Dark” show as PI Vision. Navigation Menu+ menus lose their old border and shadow once; choose Flat or Card to get a frame back.
• Panes look different everywhere, even where nothing functional changed.
• The chart toolbar is off on existing displays and on for newly placed symbols. Switch it on in the new Toolbar group.
• Fullscreen moved from double-click to the toolbar. Double-click opens PI Vision's ad hoc trend.
• Summary table numbers on Combo Chart+ change. Statistics are now calculated by the server and are time-weighted unless a display explicitly saved another basis. Sum and Total are no longer offered.
• Title font weight and legend font size are no longer settings. Headers render semibold, and legend text follows the symbol's font size.
• Export file names and data columns changed. Anything that parses the old export format must be re-checked.
• A few retired appearance options render differently on Combo Chart+: Cross, Plus and Dash markers render as circles, Cubic lines render straight, and separate outline, border and opacity settings are no longer applied.
• Filtering settings moved into Interactivity > Filtering on every symbol.
• Administrators should start from the new configuration file and merge site values into it, to get corporate themes, export restrictions and the other new settings.

Documentation

The user guide was rebuilt and is organized by task: data entry, tables and monitoring, charts and analytics, gauges and process visualization, asset navigation and context, embedded content and navigation, and tools. Every symbol article follows the same structure, and shared articles cover the Time Bar, themes and container styles, data quality and filtering. A separate installation and administration guide covers requirements, installation, configuration, license updates, upgrades and roll-back.
