AF Servers and Databases

This chapter chooses the AF databases PI Nexus+ inventories, sets how their attributes and analyses are evaluated, and controls which databases may receive analysis recalculations.

Overview

This chapter chooses the AF databases PI Nexus+ inventories, sets how their attributes and analyses are evaluated, and controls which databases may receive analysis recalculations.

The service account, or the OpenID Connect client, needs read access to the AF databases (see Service Account Rights in the Reference). For a first run, start with a small database.

Add an AF server and its databases

The AF database is what PI Nexus+ scans; the AF server holds the connection and the settings, and must be enabled first.

Admin > AF Servers with the selected server, its AF Databases tab and the row menu of one database
  1. Open Admin > AF Servers and choose Add AF Server (or the refresh button to import the servers the AF client knows). Enter the Server name, Site and Authentication mode.
  2. Select the server in the Select column.
  3. In the server's row menu, choose Enable. PI Nexus+ tests it and lists its databases on AF Databases.
  4. In a database's row menu, choose Enable. A database whose test fails stays disabled.
  5. On Attribute Scanning, choose the Value evaluation mode and save. The default, Operational attributes, suits most databases.
  6. On Analysis Settings, set Service Load Performance and the severity of Disabled or Stopped Analyses (Ignored if you park analyses on purpose), and save.

AF databases follow their server's site. A scan request for a server runs once per enabled database.

Allow analysis recalculation for a database

Operators can recalculate AF analyses only in databases an Admin has allowed. The permission covers the whole database and is off by default.

Recalculation settings dialog of one AF database
  1. On AF Databases, open the database's row menu and choose Recalculation settings.
  2. Tick Allow reviewed analysis recalculation and the acknowledgement for historical writes.
  3. Choose Save permission. Analysis Recalculation then shows Allowed. Nothing is queued.

Before you allow it, check that the PI Analysis Service account can write to the output PI Points, and remember that scheduled recalculation plans then run in this database without approval per run. The permission changes no PI security. Running recalculations is described in AF Analyses and Recalculation in the User Guide.
