This reference lists the fields and defaults of an External System, its data health policies, and the archive and delete rules.

Field	Default	Rules
Name		Required, unique, up to 256 characters
System Type	Other	OPC / Industrial, Database, ERP, MES, Cloud / Data Service, Application / Service, Other. A classification only; it creates no connector
Description		Up to 2,048 characters
Support / Owner		Up to 512 characters
Runbook URL		Optional, `http` or `https`, up to 2,048 characters
Color	`#2DD4BF`	Hex color, used as an accent in Admin and graphs
Icon	Network	Network, Server, Factory, Database, Cloud, Systems, Application, Other

Do not enter credentials or secrets; PI Nexus+ stores none and tests no connection.

Each direction has its own policy. Ignored keeps the point in the counts without degrading the system.

Role	Meaning	Graph direction
As a Source	The system feeds data into the matching PI Points	External system → PI Point
As a Target	The matching PI Points send data to the system	PI Point → External system

Policy and assignment changes apply at once, without a scan. Derived health describes the connected PI data, not whether the system is online.
