External Systems

This chapter shows how to check the health of PI data flowing from or to named systems outside PI, such as a LIMS, an MES or a cloud service.

Overview

This chapter shows how to check the health of PI data flowing from or to named systems outside PI, such as a LIMS, an MES or a cloud service.

An administrator defines each external system and links it to PI Point Rules (see External Systems in the Administration Guide). PI Nexus+ does not connect to the external system: its Data Health is derived from the linked PI Points. It is not a connectivity test.

Check an external system

External Systems page with the health cards, search, Filters, the Role, Data Health, Affected PI Points and Support / Owner columns, and a system row
  1. Open External Systems. Click Errors or Warnings to list the systems that need attention.
  2. Narrow the list with the search box or Filters: System type and Connection role (Sources, Targets or Both).
  3. Read Role, Data Health and Affected PI Points for each system. Support / Owner names who to call.
  4. Click the row. Connections lists the assigned PI Point Rules and the connected PI Points with their health; Issues lists External System Data Error or External System Data Warning; Dependency Graph shows the flow.
  5. Click a PI Point to open it and follow up as in Find stale or bad PI Points.

How a bad, warning or missing point counts is set per system and direction by the administrator; a condition set to Ignore does not affect health.

Suppressing an External System issue hides it from active counts but does not change the derived health.
