Health, Issues and KPIs

This chapter explains the few ideas every page is built on: health states, issues, suppression and the health percentages.

Health states

Every PI Point, AF Attribute, AF Analysis and PI Vision display has one health state:

  • Good: no open problem.
  • Warning: a condition worth fixing, such as a stale or unused object.
  • Error (for PI Points Bad): a broken object, such as a missing PI Point or a failing analysis.
  • Not Evaluated: PI Nexus+ knows the object but has no current verdict, for example because it is disabled, missing from the latest scan or excluded by a PI Point rule.

AF Elements take their health from their attributes and analyses; an element with neither shows No Health Sources. The full list is under Health states in the Reference.

Issues

An issue is one problem on one object, for example Bad PI Point Value on a tag. Each has a severity: Error, Warning or Info. An object's health follows its worst open issue, so fixing the issue fixes the health. Info issues never change health.

A scan opens an issue when it finds the problem and resolves it when the problem is gone. Issues are tracked by the object's identity, not its name, so a renamed or moved object keeps its issues.

Suppressed issues

Suppress an issue when the condition is real but accepted, for example a tag that only records during campaigns. A suppressed issue leaves the active counts and the health percentages but stays visible under Suppressed issues with its reason. When its expiry passes, it counts again (see Suppress an accepted exception).

Health percentages

The dashboard shows a health percentage per object type: the share of Good objects among those that have a verdict. Objects that cannot be judged are left out, for example disabled analyses or unused PI Vision displays. Overall Health of the estate, a site or a server is the average of its type percentages.

Every percentage has a band: Healthy (90 % and above), Degraded (80 % to below 90 %) or Attention (below 80 %).

Content health, the percentages above, says how healthy the objects on a server are. Service health says whether PI Nexus+ can reach the server and keep its scans current. PI Nexus+ never blends the two (see Check whether a server is reachable).
