AF Attributes, Elements and Templates

This chapter shows how to find unhealthy AF attributes and see where AF problems concentrate, by element or by template.

Overview

This chapter shows how to find unhealthy AF attributes and see where AF problems concentrate, by element or by template.

Concepts

  • AF Attributes carry the health. An attribute is Bad or in Error when its data reference fails, its PI Point is missing or its current value is bad.
  • AF Elements roll up the health of their child attributes and analyses. No Health Sources means the element has nothing PI Nexus+ evaluates.
  • AF Element Templates (menu AF Templates) show how many open issues the elements built from each template have. A template with many issues usually points to one fix in the template.
  • With the default Operational attributes scan mode, attributes without a data reference, hidden attributes and excluded attributes are not read, so they show Not Evaluated.

Find where AF problems concentrate

AF Element Templates with the With Issues card, the top issue types, the derived elements and a template
  1. Open AF Templates and read the With Issues card.
  2. Read Top Issue Types per template, such as Attribute Missing PI Point or Broken AF Analysis, with their counts.
  3. Read Derived Elements: how many elements built from the template are good.
  4. Click a template. Derived Elements lists its elements; Issues groups the issues by attribute and analysis template.

To work element by element instead, filter AF Elements by Health, AF Database or AF Template. In an element's dialog, Issues shows the child attributes and analyses that explain its health. Elements have no dependency graph; start one from a child attribute or analysis.

Find unhealthy AF attributes

  1. Open AF Attributes and read Bad Value, Errors and Warnings.
  2. Choose Filters and set Health, Data reference or AF Template. Search also finds error text.
  3. Click a row. Overview shows the element, template, data reference, configuration string, current value and health message.
  4. Open Datasources for the linked PI Point, the analyses that read or write the attribute, the PI Vision displays that show it and its limit attributes. Use its health filter to keep only the unhealthy ones.

A linked PI Point is monitored separately and can keep its own issue after the attribute is fixed.
