PI Nexus+ / Installation Guide

First Targets and First Scan

This chapter takes a new installation to automatic monitoring: add the targets, check readiness, prove each scan type on a small scope, then start automatic monitoring.

Overview

This chapter takes a new installation to automatic monitoring: add the targets, check readiness, prove each scan type on a small scope, then start automatic monitoring.

Add the first targets

Add, test and enable one target of each kind you use, as described in the Administration Guide: Admin > PI Data Archives (PI Data Archives), Admin > AF Servers with at least one AF database (AF Servers and Databases), and Admin > PI Vision Instances if used (PI Vision Instances).

Test runs on the web server. On a split deployment only the scoped scans below prove the scanner server's access.

Check readiness

The Readiness tab is the installation checklist. It is checked again each time you open Admin > Support.

Admin > Support > Readiness with the overall status, a group with a warning and a collapsed group
  1. Read Overall Status: Good, Warning or Error.
  2. Fix every Error check. Decide for each Warning whether it is acceptable, for example no PI Vision instance when PI Vision is not used.
  3. Expand a group to see its passed checks.

Readiness never blocks a scan by itself.

Run scoped test scans

Run one small scan per inventory type before anything estate-wide.

Reconcile inventory dialog with the PI Points, Asset Framework, PI Interfaces and PI Vision rows, their target selectors and Add to queue
  1. Open the Scanning page from the scan status at the bottom of the navigation, and choose Reconcile inventory.
  2. Under PI Points, select one PI Data Archive in All targets and choose Add to queue. When it succeeds, check PI Points.
  3. Under Asset Framework, queue one small AF database. Check AF Attributes and AF Analyses.
  4. If Interface Tracking is enabled on the archive, queue PI Interfaces for it and check PI Interfaces.
  5. If PI Vision is used, queue one instance and check PI Vision Displays.
  6. Review readiness again.

Fix a failed scan before you go on. Scan results are described in Scanning in the User Guide.

Start automatic monitoring

This is the last installation step. Automatic monitoring runs a baseline full scan of each managed target, then refreshes health and follows changes on its own.

  1. Open Admin > Scan Automation and check the targets and the heavy-work window.
  2. Choose Start automatic monitoring and confirm.

Until you start it, health goes stale and only what you request is scanned. Intensity, the window and pausing are described in Scan Automation in the Administration Guide.
