Change History, Missing Inventory and Exports

This chapter shows how to find what changed in the PI System, look up objects that disappeared, and take a list out of PI Nexus+ as a CSV file.

Overview

This chapter shows how to find what changed in the PI System, look up objects that disappeared, and take a list out of PI Nexus+ as a CSV file.

Check what changed

Change History lists every change the scans detected: created, updated, renamed, moved, deleted and excluded objects. It follows the chosen site.

Change History with the Range, a day's bar, the category legend, search, Filters and a change row
  1. Choose the Range, for example Last 7 days.
  2. Click a day's bar to list only that day's changes.
  3. Click a category in the legend to hide or show it in the chart.
  4. Search for an object, path, target, user or summary.
  5. Choose Filters to narrow by Category, Change (for example Deleted) or AF template.
  6. Click a change to open the object. An object that no longer exists opens in historical context with the reason.

Changed by names the user when the PI System records one. When a healthy object suddenly fails, look here first for a rename, move or data reference change at the same time.

If the page says Change tracking is turned off, an administrator has switched it off (see Administration Overview in the Administration Guide). The Evaluation edition does not include Change History.

Find an object that disappeared

An object is missing when an earlier scan found it and the latest did not. Missing objects are hidden from the lists so the daily work shows current inventory only.

  1. Open the inventory page, for example PI Points or AF Attributes, and turn on Show missing under Filters (see Work with any list page).
  2. Open the object to see its last known definition, its references and its change history.

Excluded PI Points are different: the latest scan found them, but a PI Point rule excludes them on purpose. Turn on Show excluded on the PI Points page to see them. Missing and excluded objects show as Not Evaluated and do not count in the health percentages. They are removed over time by retention; see Inventory Maintenance and SQL Admin UI in the Administration Guide.

Export a list as CSV

Operators can download most lists as CSV, for offline review or a remediation list: narrow the page (see Work with any list page), then choose the download button next to Filters, for example Download PI Points CSV.

The file follows the page's filters and the chosen site, with two exceptions: a Servers export holds every row of the tab in the chosen site, and the Scanning history export holds every retained run. A file is a snapshot; download it again after the next scan. In the Evaluation edition the button is locked.
