The web server needs the PI client software because Test, discovery, PI Adapter discovery and compression changes run there. The Module Database test runs on the scanner server.
On a server where the Hosting Bundle was installed before IIS, repair the Hosting Bundle after IIS is added, so that it registers the ASP.NET Core Module.
Readiness checks the Visual C++ Redistributable as AF SDK native prerequisite: missing or older than 14.42.34438 is an Error, because AF SDK discovery and scans fail without it.
IIS features the installer turns on
On Windows Server the installer adds these features if missing: Web-Server, Web-WebServer, Web-Common-Http, Web-Default-Doc, Web-Static-Content, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Security, Web-Filtering, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-Mgmt-Tools, Web-Scripting-Tools.
If Windows reports that a restart is needed, finish setup and restart before production use. If the features cannot be added, install IIS, Windows Authentication and IIS Management Scripts and Tools by hand and run setup again.
PI Nexus+ removes the WebDAV module for its own site, so an installed WebDAV Publishing role service does not break saving. A server that locks the IIS modules or handlers section answers with HTTP 500.19; the installer log names the locked section.

The installer does not start the app pool; IIS starts it on the first request.
