PI Nexus+ / Installation Guide

Run the Installer

This chapter installs the web application and the scanner service, interactively or silently.

Overview

This chapter installs the web application and the scanner service, interactively or silently.

Interactive installation

Sign in as a local administrator and run PI-Nexus-Setup-1.7.0.exe. It installs the Visual C++ Redistributable, PI Nexus+ and the .NET 10 Hosting Bundle.

  1. Accept the license agreement and choose the installation folder.
  2. On Choose components, keep both Web application (IIS) and Scanner service ticked for a single server. For a split deployment, see Split Deployment.
  3. On Configure PI Nexus+, enter the Service account in full and its Service password. Leave the password empty for a gMSA.
  4. Keep IIS HTTP port at 5139 unless the port is taken.
  5. Keep Write SQL bootstrap configuration now ticked and enter SQL Server (your instance, for example SQL01 or SQL01\INSTANCE) and SQL database.
  6. Leave Secret certificate empty; it is needed only on a split deployment that uses OpenID Connect.
  7. Install. On the last page, keep Run PI Nexus+ Database Setup now ticked and choose Finish.

If Windows rejects the account, the installer still finishes, with ApplicationPoolIdentity for the app pool and LocalSystem for the service, and logs a warning. Fix this before scanning; see Verify Runtime Identities.

The result is the IIS site PI Nexus+, the app pool PINexusAppPool (started by IIS on the first request) and the service PI Nexus+ Scanner (Automatic (Delayed Start)).

Note: If you clear Write SQL bootstrap configuration now, PI Nexus+ starts in setup mode, and a local administrator enters the database under Admin > SQL Server. A scanner-only installation always writes it.

Silent installation

The setup program does not pass settings to PI Nexus+, so a silent installation runs the three packages inside it one by one, in the order the setup program uses.

  1. Extract the packages: PI-Nexus-Setup-1.7.0.exe /layout C:\PINexusSetup /quiet. The folder then holds vc_redist.x64.exe, PINexus.Setup.msi and dotnet-hosting-10-win.exe.
  2. Install the Visual C++ Redistributable: vc_redist.x64.exe /install /quiet /norestart.
  3. Install PI Nexus+ with msiexec, as below. With the web application, the MSI turns on IIS.
  4. Install the .NET 10 Hosting Bundle: dotnet-hosting-10-win.exe /quiet /norestart. It must come after the MSI, so that it finds IIS.
  5. Run Database Setup (Set Up the Database); a silent installation does not start it.
msiexec /i PINexus.Setup.msi /qn /l*v "%TEMP%\PINexus-msi.log" ADDLOCAL=WebApplication,ScannerService SERVICEACCOUNT="DOMAIN\svc-pinexus" SERVICEPASSWORD="..." IISPORT=5139 SQLSERVER="SQL01" SQLDATABASE="PINexus"

For a gMSA, pass SERVICEACCOUNT="DOMAIN\svc-pinexus$" and no password. Running the setup program itself with /quiet cannot set the service account, so use the steps above instead.
