PI Vision Instances

Overview

This chapter adds a PI Vision instance so PI Nexus+ can inventory its displays and show which displays use a PI Point, AF attribute or analysis. Skip it if you do not use PI Vision.

Before you start

PI Nexus+ reads displays from the PI Vision SQL database, not from the web server. Create a SQL Server login for the PI Nexus+ service account, or map a group it belongs to, and grant it db_datareader on each PI Vision database.

Add an instance

Edit dialog of a PI Vision instance with its connection, the unused display check and the datasource health levels
  1. Open Admin > PI Vision Instances and choose Add Instance.
  2. Enter a Name, for example PI Vision Production, and the URL of PI Vision. It must end in /PIVision, for example https://pivis01.example.com/PIVision.
  3. Enter the SQL Server and Database of PI Vision; both are required. Choose the Site once two sites exist.
  4. Leave Unused display check on to mark displays not opened for Unused After Days (365 by default).
  5. Under Datasource Health Levels, choose how missing, error and warning datasources affect a display's health.
  6. Choose Test. It checks the URL format and reads the SQL database; it does not contact the web server.
  7. Choose Save Instance. Enabled for scanning is ticked by default; clear it to save the instance without scanning it.

Keep Missing Datasource at Error where displays are operationally important, or set it to Warning where PI Vision is mainly used for ad hoc views. Remove in the row menu deletes the instance together with its display inventory. Users work with displays as described in PI Vision Displays in the User Guide.
