Overview
This reference lists the service health rules, the columns and dialogs of the Servers page, and how objects belong to sites. The User Guide chapter Servers and Sites links here. The Hosts tab is described in Host Monitoring Reference.
Service health rules
A server's service health is the worst of all reasons that apply. Order: Error, Warning, Unknown, Good. Each reason is listed in the server's dialog; the first is shown on the row.
State
Reason (as shown)
Applies to
Not monitored
No longer a scan target. Counts are from the last scan.
All
Not monitored
Disabled as a scan target.
All
Error
The last connection test failed.
All
Error
The last N scans failed (3 or more in a row, inventory or health)
PI Data Archive, AF Database
Warning
The last scan failed / The last 2 scans failed
PI Data Archive, AF Database
Warning
No successful health refresh since a time. Raised when the last success is older than 3 times the target's health cadence, and only while automatic monitoring is active and the target is included and not paused
PI Data Archive, AF Database
Warning
Scan automation reports that the target needs attention (its reason is shown)
PI Data Archive, AF Database
Warning
The change feed is failing; changes are picked up by full scans only.
PI Data Archive, AF Database
Warning
The change feed must be re-established by a full scan.
PI Data Archive, AF Database
Warning
The last PI Interface inventory failed.
PI Data Archive
Warning
The last PI Interface runtime poll failed.
PI Data Archive
Error / Warning
N AF databases have service health Error / Warning
AF Server
Unknown
Never tested and never scanned.
All
Good
None of the above
All
An AF Server has no scans of its own: its service health combines its connection test with its AF databases. A database with Unknown service health does not change the server. A PI Vision instance is judged only on being enabled and its connection test. An old inventory scan is never a service health reason.
