Asset Filter+

Overview

Asset Filter+ lets an operator select one or more asset categories and applies that selection to compatible Vision Library+ symbols on the same display.

When to use it

Use Asset Filter+ when a display contains asset-relative tables or charts that should respond to one shared asset selection. It supports categorical lists, hierarchical paths, and configured numeric ranges.

Use Asset Select+ when the primary goal is to change PI Vision's asset context instead of filtering an existing asset collection.

Before you begin

• Prepare an AF asset search or asset collection that includes the properties you want to filter.
• Add at least one compatible Vision Library+ symbol that participates in shared asset filtering.
• Decide whether the filter should ignore selections made by other master filters on the display.

Add and set up the symbol

1. Select Asset Filter Plus in the PI Vision symbol gallery.
2. Drag an AF asset search, asset collection, or compatible asset-relative data source onto the display.
3. Right-click the symbol and select Configure.
4. Under Dimension, add the asset property or attribute that defines the filter choices.
5. Under Selection, choose single or multiple selection and set any required default.
6. Confirm that selecting an item updates the compatible symbols on the display.

Use the symbol

Select an item to apply the filter. In multiple-selection mode, select additional items or use All to restore the complete set. Use the search field to narrow a long list without changing the configured filter definition.

Clearing the selection removes this symbol's shared asset filter. Other filters on the display remain active unless Ignore Master is enabled.

Configure the symbol

Dimension

• Arguments: Selects the asset properties or attributes used to build each category label.
• View: Presents the values as a flat list or, when several arguments form a path, as a tree.
• Numeric ranges: Groups a numeric property into configured ranges instead of distinct values.

Layout and selection

• Start expanded: Opens the filter body when the display loads.
• Selection mode: Allows one selection or several selections.
• Required selection: Applies a configured default when the operator has not selected an item.
• Ignore Master: Builds this list from the full asset collection instead of the result of other asset Master filters. Linked inputs remain active.

Header, search, and style

• Header: Controls the visible title and expansion control.
• Search: Shows or hides the item search field.
• Style: Applies a shared control preset or custom container, text, and selection colors.

Examples

Filter a comparison display by production area

Use an area or line attribute as the dimension, enable multiple selection, and place an Asset Comparison Table+ beside the filter. Operators can compare one area or a selected group without editing the display.

Filtering

Asset Filter+ can receive Linked inputs and publish MASTER, LINKED, or BOTH from direct list or tree selections. Linked outputs publish the configured property values from the selected canonical asset rows, including multiple selections. Numeric range selections remain Master-only.

Troubleshooting and limitations

• No filter choices appear: Confirm that the asset search returns rows and that the configured dimension exists in the canonical asset data.
• Another symbol does not change: The target symbol must support the shared asset-filter domain and use the same asset collection.
• A numeric range is unavailable: Select a numeric property and configure at least one valid range.
• The selection resets after configuration changes: Changing dimensions or source attributes clears incompatible saved selections by design.
